Your Profile

You are a Finalist level Patent Attorney (CPA or EPA also considered) Computer Science or Software background (first degree or PhD level) currently working in private practice, law firm or an in-house IP department. A 1st class degree in computer science, coupled with a PhD would be highly desirable. You should ideally have a proven background in handling direct clients, and you should particularly enjoy inventor/R&D relationship building. As well as having a track record of patent portfolio management in your current role you must also be able to demonstrate an ability to think strategically, as this role requires someone who relishes client development. You should possess an appetite to broaden your level of expertise, with a natural gravitas to persuade and influence others.

The Role

This is a brand new role, and has the capacity to be a career-defining appointment for the right person. It is a unique position that commands a varied skill set of expertise and knowledge, and will be pivotal in the strategic development of existing and future clients. You will be working closely with a lead partner in the cryptography field, and you'll also be entrusted with building and nurturing close relationships with a global technical team. If you relish close contact with R&D/inventors, then this role will provide extensive liaison. Exposure to cyber-security technology would be advantageous, but not essential. The successful attorney can look forward to high degree of autonomy, with responsibility for dealing with all aspects of drafting, prosecution and contentious work from the outset.

The Company

This firm is hugely respected as a Top Tier practice by the Legal 500 for both their patent and trademark groups. The company has a network of UK offices and they proudly command a top 10 tier position in the UK for filings . They also pride themselves on being very progressive and modern in their approach to client management, as attorneys are encouraged to develop and build their own client relationships directly. As this is a commercially-oriented practice, your IP career will go from strength to strength being supported by a very modern partnership. If you are motivated to over-achieve then you will be rewarded both professionally and financially. The culture also retains a friendly, non-political environment which adopts an innovative and aspirational approach to IP. This is a chance to become an integral member of a fantastic practice.
