Job description for editor

The successful candidate will be:

  • An excellent writer
  • A proactive, self-starter, able to act on his/her own initiative
  • An internal communicator
  • Capable of working across a number of accounts - printed and digital
  • Able to adapt to working across different business sectors - transport, logistics, and energy could all form part of the portfolio
  • Capable of pitching as part of a team
  • Organised with great attention to detail
  • Creative
  • A strong communicator unflustered by dealing with senior people in the corporate environment

If candidates have experience of working in the internal communications industry, either for an agency of in-house then this would be a fantastic advantage.

Role and responsibilities:

Core role

  • Act as main point of contact
  • Attend editorial meetings
  • Receive and interpret (sometimes complex) briefs
  • Research articles and draft copy to client's brief
  • Send copy for approvals, chase approvals and incorporate amends into copy
  • Create page plans for each publication in liaison with client
  • Brief designers on each publication and liaise closely with studio throughout the design phase
  • Prepare publication for design
  • Proofread all pages before they are sent to the client, providing headlines, standfirsts and cutting copy where appropriate
  • Take client's amendments on page proofs and check off before re-sending to client for sign-off
  • Coordinate projects to make sure they hit deadlines and budget

Business development

  • Develop your publications in conjunction with team members, designers, account manager and client
  • Contribute to pitch and new business work as and when required
  • Act as a company ambassador at client meetings or events
  • Support and champion high standards in editorial practices
