Job Profile - Editor

Contribute to company strategy for the magazine by having an informed view on:

  • The nature of the global industry, its customers and suppliers
  • The needs of, and how to reach/appeal to, current and target readership
  • Maintaining current markets and developing key growth markets
  • Our relationships with industry associations and key market players
  • The application of various media (print, web etc)
  • development of complementary events and products
  • branding and design

Set the editorial plan

  • review the editorial calendar annually in line with the company strategy
  • set editorial objectives to deliver the company strategy
  • plan features, contributions and general editorial in line with the company strategy
  • plan the annual contributors' budget, and liaise with contributors to set briefs

Produce/edit the magazine

  • plan and edit the monthly magazine and oversee the layout process
  • manage the monthly timetable and ensure deadlines are met by all contributors
  • hold monthly planning meetings to brief editorial and sales staff and facilitate exchange of information on key customers and markets
  • recommend design updates

Manage editorial staff and contributors

  • set objectives for the Assistant Editor
  • monitor objectives and manage development
  • brief contributors and ensure that they work to their briefs and meet deadlines
  • set annual travel plan in line with the company strategy, and manage annual travel budget
  • brief contributors/staff members to maximize return from travel spend
  • act as an ambassador for the magazine brand and represent the title at events and client meetings


  • create the programme for the annual Sumit and arrange schedule of speakers appropriate to the location and the themes

propose ideas for new events in line with the company strategy for the magazine
