Job Title - Lead User Researcher
Location - Remote (occasional travel to Birmingham)
Duration - 2.5 months (potential extensions)
Start Date -23/4/19

The project has limited time for user research however it is of great importance to the client that the initial research is carried out in the right way. GDS best practice etc.

Essential criteria

  • Experience and understanding of a range of user centred design and delivery practices.
  • Execute qualitative research projects from start to finish, including developing a research plan, recruiting, moderating, analysing results, and presenting findings.
  • The ability to understand and articulate the client's problem, and align user research activities to inform decision making and action.
  • Conducting user research projects with demonstrated impact on the final user experience.
  • Identifying user needs using multiple methodologies.
  • A good understanding of the diversity of users, and the ability to include many kinds of users in appropriate research activities.
  • Using a range of quantitative and qualitative methodologies including, usability testing, interviews, surveys, contextual inquiries and persona creation/user story creation.
  • Working in an agile, open, iterative, collaborative and transparent way is of high importance to the client. Documenting process, activity, results and artefacts to provide a creditable narrative to all user research. There is potential for this product to be designed publicly and communicated through a set of blog posts.
  • Meeting a tight deadline and delivering high-quality work on schedule, including quickly turning around research plans and outputs in different formats.
  • Synthesising multiple inputs (reporting data, metrics, qualitative and quantitative insights) to generate actionable and implementable recommendations.
  • Involving teams and stakeholders in analysis and synthesis to increase consensus and challenge assumptions.
