Mechanical Engineering - Qualified Patent Attorney

£60,000 - £80,000 + package

The Person

You are a qualified patent attorney (EPA or CPA) with a mechanical engineering, physics or electronics background, currently working in private practice or an industrial IP department. You should ideally have a proven background in handling direct client portfolios, including drafting and prosecution, with a minimum of 12 months PQE. As well as having a proven track record of working with direct clients in your current role you must also be able to demonstrate an ability to think commercially and impart sound legal advice to clients of all sizes. You should possess a flair for fostering new relationships and spotting commercial opportunities, so attorneys who enjoy inventor contact will thrive.

The Role

This key appointment is aimed at a mechanical engineering patent attorney who is looking for greater exposure to key clients, but additional expertise in other technical fields would be advantageous.

There is an immediate caseload available, as well as opportunities to foster new relationships, so a proactive and client-development focused approach is required.

The team is very well established and pride themselves on the quality and breadth of their clients, covering a wide range of sectors in the UK, Europe, Asia and the US. The successful attorney can look forward to high degree of autonomy, with responsibility for dealing with all aspects of drafting, prosecution and contentious areas of IP. You will be accountable for a significant level of client contact, so your communication skills (both oral and written) must be first-class.

The Company

The firm is hugely respected as a Top Tier practice by the Legal 500 for both their patent and trademark practices. This firm has a network of UK offices and they proudly command a Top 10 tier in the UK for filings. They also pride themselves on being progressive and modern in their approach to client management, as attorneys are encouraged to develop and build their own client relationships from an early stage in their respective careers. As this is a commercially-oriented practice, your career will be entirely meritocratic, so if you are motivated to over-achieve then you will be rewarded both professionally and financially. The culture is friendly, supportive and completely transparent, so the onus is on the individual to really carve a successful niche for themselves. An excellent opportunity for someone looking to escape the daily grind of London!
