The Role
This is a newly created Patent Formalities Assistant position in an established UK IP private practice, joining an established and agile legal support team.
Your responsibilities will include;
assistance with patent formalities, grant letters and further patent administration accountabilities.
Reporting into the Head of Formalities, you will gain immediate responsibility for a number of projects where your IP knowledge base will be stretched, so you must be both efficient and proactive in your work style.
Further accountabilities will include client billing, an ability to monitor and manage deadlines and to provide additional support for fee-earners. There is genuine scope to progress in this position for those individuals who demonstrate an eagerness to develop their patent formalities skill sets and add value to the firm as a whole.

Your Profile
You are currently a Patent Administrator with experience of Formalities, ideally gained within a private practice environment. You will have gained a minimum of 12 months relevant experience, having handled both client-facing formalities and IP records data. You must have gained experience of patent related terminology and be familiar with the pace of a modern intellectual property department.
You should naturally possess first-class communication skills (verbal and written) and be comfortable liaising with patent and no-patent professionals. Having a good working knowledge and interest in varying Intellectual Property issues is to be expected, coupled with your administration and IT skills. The CIPA Formalities/Administration qualification would be advantageous (although not essential), as would a working knowledge of Inprotech or an other Windows-based IP database system.
