Fully managed database-as-a-service (DBaaS) offering for enterprises. Once the service is generally available later this summer, users will be able to spin it up on AWS and Microsoft Azure, with support for Google Cloud coming a bit later this year - Techcrunch.com
I'm no tech expert, but as an observer of trends in tech and therefore the talent requirements of the future, DBaaS has been an interesting sector to follow.
Why pay for storage you don't need? It is much better to pay as you use, and it is a real win for enterprise consumers; this is not just in cost of use, but also in IT Database Administration.
Couchbase are taking the service to a new level; they are allowing users to utilise multiple cloud service providers within one platform, as well as providing the option of a fully managed service.
Naturally, there will be a shift in the type of talent required to maximise efficiency and productivity from these new service offerings. Also, quite a cool service to be selling as the win-win seems obvious as well.
