Business Development Manager - Advertising / Media (B2B)

💰 £30,000-£35,000 Basic + Uncapped Commission (OTE £40,000-£45,000+)
A specialist B2B publishing and events business is seeking an BDM to join its commercial team. This opportunity has arisen due to a retirement and recent acquisition, creating a rare opening within two established international trade publications serving the bulk liquids and bulk materials handling sectors.
The portfolio includes well-respected print magazines (published bi-monthly and six times per year), associated websites, and newsletters serving global supply chains across chemicals, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, minerals, food & beverage and related industries.
You will be responsible for selling advertising solutions across print and digital platforms to an international client base.
Key responsibilities include:
Selling display advertising across print magazines, websites and newsletters
Building and developing long-term client relationships
Proactively generating new business opportunities
Managing and growing your own portfolio of accounts
Meeting and exceeding revenue targets
Accurate forecasting and pipeline management
Preparing tailored sales proposals
Conducting competitor analysis and market research
Working closely with the editorial team to align commercial and content strategy
Representing the business at European trade shows and industry events
Reporting directly to the Managing Director
You will be expected to structure your day effectively, make consistent outbound sales calls to an international database, and maintain a high level of organisation and activity.
Previous experience in media or advertising sales (print and/or digital preferred)
Proven track record of achieving and exceeding targets
Strong new business development skills
Confident telephone manner and professional communication style
Comfortable conducting web research and preparing sales proposals
Strong negotiation and presentation skills
Highly organised with strong attention to detail
Able to manage accounts independently and take ownership of revenue growth
Willing to travel to trade shows within Europe and occasionally further afield
A-Level education minimum (degree preferred)
This role would suit a junior salesperson looking to step up and take on greater responsibility within a well-established publishing environment.
£30,000-£35,000 basic salary
Uncapped commission (3% per sale)
Realistic OTE £40,000-£45,000+
