To understand how certain factors such as Cost of Living and the UK political landscape are affecting the jobs market this year, Aspire researched the attitudes, motivations, and opinions of over 500 candidates held in Q3 of 2022. This report shares the findings, highlighting the key trends (measured against Q1 and Q2).

35% of candidates said they were unable to afford tax increases, with 44.6% of respondents unsure.

With 48.5% of candidates having a lack of confidence in the government, it is then no wonder that there is an increase in candidates looking for freelance and contract roles. This reflects the challenging economic climate with freelancing giving candidates with an additional income stream.

"A 41-year high inflation rate, a recession – plus tax freezes and rises – are clearly playing on the mind of workers, many of whom are struggling with the cost of living. And candidates are equally sceptical that this government is able to manage the recession with question marks over whether Rishi Sunak is the right person for the job."

Terry Payne, Global Managing Director at Aspire.
